Throat cancer is a cancerous tumor in the throat, tonsils, or voice box. As the cancer of the throat spreads, it may expand to nearby tissues. Throat cancer is commonly known as head and neck cancer. The problem shares a few features with mouth cancer (or oropharyngeal cancer). Throat cancer treatment is possible depending on the level of condition. Throat includes three parts which can develop cancer, termed as different types of throat cancer.

Laryngeal Cancer

Laryngeal cancer is caused in the larynx (or voice box) from where it can spread to the back of the tongue. The treatment for laryngeal cancer depends on its exact location and the extent of disease including therapies like radiation.

Hypopharyngeal Cancer

Hypopharyngeal cancer (or pharynx cancer) is caused in the lower part of the throat. The symptoms for hypopharyngeal throat cancer are different from others. Hypopharyngeal cancer treatment includes chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery.

 

Oropharyngeal Cancer

Oropharyngeal throat cancer is caused in the upper part of the pharynx. Individuals dealing with oropharyngeal cancer may experience lump on the mouth, lip, mouth, throat, or cheeks.

Squamous cell carcinoma

The squamous cell carcinoma throat cancer affects the flat cells in the throat lining. It is the most common type of throat cancer that develops in the squamous cells.

Glottic Cancer

Glottic throat cancer is a malignancy of the larynx (or vocal cords) often appear with early signs of hoarseness. It is the most common type of laryngeal cancer. Subglottic cancer is caused in the lower portion of the voice cord which is a rarer malignancies condition.
